The Schlaudt family around 1860 built this country getaway as a barn -- and today
is a charming guesthouse offered to visitors of Fredericksburg. The name Texas
Star comes from the etched glass door with its Texas Star design and the cutout
wooden stars at the corners of the porch.
This wonderful country guesthouse is basically one large room with a high pitched
ceiling. Part of it is built with the old rock walls -- the owners have chosen
to paint these rocks white on the inside to give a nice texture to the walls
and brightness to the room. The rest of the house is painted teal with shutters
on the windows and cornices of woodstained gingerbread. Battenburg lace valances
give a fresh and airy look to the room.
Latticework and gingerbread woodwork and Battenburg divide the room with lace
curtains to add privacy to the bedroom area. The bedroom area is spacious and
inviting with it's king-size brass bed. A focal point is a beautiful stained
glass window located high above the bed - to catch the morning sun.
The frame part of the structure is the living-dining area. Wingback chairs,
a large mirrored wardrobe, pine dining table and a cabinet built of barn siding
(this is the mini-kitchen) make a delightful setting for guests to relax and

The location is country yet you're only five minutes from downtown Fredericksburg.
The old homeplace has been renovated and occasionally your hosts stay in the
house.
