The Red Barn is situated on a bluff on the west bank of the Gamenthaler Creek, which bisects the 45 acres of oaks and open land that make up the Pepper Ranch. The Red Barn was designed by your hosts and their builder, the award winning Richard Laughlin, following the purchase of the land in 2004. The exterior is based on the part wood part stone barn at the Pioneer Museum in Fredericksburg. The old wooden beams and red siding came from an early 19th Century barn shipped down from Wisconsin.

Guests will not want to leave this beautiful barn once they have enjoyed the wonderful decor and amenities. Inside are wood floors accenting the many fine features of the home itself. The dining room has an antique wood table seating up to six people. An arched rock doorway leads to the spacious living room, which offers comfortable sofa and chairs...all placed to enjoy the wood fireplace and the TV complete with DVD. The unique furnishings and decor have been collected from all over the world. The large window in the living room is covered by a barn door on the outside, which is opened by rolling the door open. The views of the property are breathtaking. A small but complete kitchen (with all of the most up-to-date conveniences) is also found on this floor plus a washer and dryer for those long stays.

Follow the steps down to the master bedroom and enjoy the amenities this room offers. The queen bed faces French doors, entering onto the outside porch. A splashing tub can be filled during the summer months for relief from the hot summer days. Comfortable seating is found on the porch which your hosts say is a great spot to unwind and relax. The bathroom in the master bedroom has a tiled shower with jets.

Upstairs has two bedrooms that share a bath with a large glass shower. One of the bedroom has a bunk bed and full (double) bed and the second has a full bed (queen length). The tin on the ceiling upstairs is esthetic only making the upstairs offer a statement of originality and class. (When the upstairs is used and there are two people the price will include the extra bedroom cost).

Outside is absolutely charming, comfortable and cleverly appointed. The porch off of the master bedroom is only the beginning. Enjoy the outdoor shower, which offers both hot and cold water, or the fireplace and grill under the covered patio, or walk the land which goes from fence to fence. You are welcome to fish in the creek (bring your own equipment) on a throw back basis. There is also a trampoline, which your hosts prefer not be used, unless guests take complete responsibility for injuries that could occur. The shed on the back of the property is your hosts storage room and is strictly off limits to guests.
