Opa's Barn (in German "Opa" means grandfather) is truly a
delight. What was once an old frame barn is now a charming guest house. It's
located only three miles from Fredericksburg in a peaceful country setting.
A front porch of stone welcomes you to the living room and
kitchen. Everywhere you look are reminders of the past. A mirror, old fashioned
lamp, shaving mirror, kitchen cabinet, china closet and the list goes on to
include a wonderful collection of antique dishes you are welcome to use. Even
the curtains are of lace from the past. This room is a pleasure for relaxing
(the couch makes into a queen bed), having a cup of coffee and enjoying the
scenery as you gaze out the window.
The upstairs bedroom features a queen-size bed with a lovely
quilt. The colors on the quilt are carried into the hooked rugs and checked dust
ruffle. Wonderful antique pictures, benches, and bedside tables remind you of
Oma and Opa's house. The bath has an old fashioned footed tub (you can shower in
it, too) and more antique shelves, mirror, and braided rugs enhance the floral
wallpaper. Throughout the "Barn" natural wood is used for the ceilings and
floors.
The modern-day Opa and Oma who renovated the "Barn" added a
deck off the kitchen and the bedroom for guests to enjoy the outdoors with a
view of the fields, oak trees, the nearby hills, deer and magnificent sunsets. A
picnic table has been placed in the shade of oak trees. A nearly constant breeze
is another pleasure to enjoy.
