The Hotopp Haus is located two blocks from Main Street, in the Historic District.
This home is typical Fredericksburg with part of the structure being built in
the 1850s, part in 1910 & 1914 and the most recent addition in 1991. This
wonderful home can be rented as the Whole Home OR as two separate suites described
below. Each suite is private with separate outside entrances.
1914 SUITE - Suite includes a parlor, two bedrooms, kitchen and bath.
Approaching the front porch of this home, notice the cornerstone with "1914"
engraved on it -- and to the left, over the stained glass window "Charles
Hotopp 1914." This red brick home is actually an add-on to the older rock
structure behind it. The porch is inviting with a porch swing. The Victorian
parlor has a stained glass window, couch and chair, a marble top table and secretary
(that conceals the TV). The master bedroom has a queen-size canopy bed. The
rose bedroom has twin beds. The red brick hallway leads to the fully equipped
kitchen with its limestone rock walls of a structure of another era, that of
Heinrich and Henrietta Hotopp, dating to the mid 1800s. The bathroom has a whirlpool
tub/shower. Located off the hallway to the kitchen and bath, is the connecting
door to the Fireplace Suite. The dividing wall is a 1850s, 12 inch thick rock
wall.
FIREPLACE SUITE – Suite includes a den, kitchen, one bedroom with child’s
sleeping loft and bath
The newly added den features the native limestone fireplace with French doors
that overlook the patio and summer garden. Yet another wall is the rock of the
1850's with an large antique bar-counter. This 12-inch-thick rock wall is the
dividing wall between the two suites. The small kitchen has everything you'll
need for cooking (and has your German style breakfast). The bathroom has an
antique footed tub, stained glass window and pressed tin ceiling. The 1850's
bedroom has the original rock walls along with the gunport windows. It has a
king-size bed and a bedroom door opens to the side porch. The sleeping loft
overlooks the bedroom and has a child’s bed with antique bedspread and
other fun children's items. The entire home has been lovingly renovated and
decorated.
