STEHLING HOUSE-(Moonglow Suite and Sunroom Suite)
Early in the 1920s, Felix Stehling, a Fredericksburg merchant, purchased this property to build a Bungalow Style home for his bride. In the years to come, the Stehlings raised a family of four daughters and seven sons -- Charles, Felix, Ferd, Elizabeth, Mary, Bill, George, Corinne, Mike, Virginia and Pat.
Guests will realize the dedications and effort of a daughter and son-in-law who restored the home to make it appear as though it was just built; yet offering the feel of warmth, hospitality and German Gemùtlichkeit for which the Stehling Family was known. Ten foot ceilings, original wood floors, exposed wooden beams in living room and dining room with natural light make this home inviting. Original furnishings as well as family possessions are carefully combined to convey the spirit of the German family traditions.
MOONGLOW SUITE
The Stehling House has two suites, or can be rented as a two bedroom/two bath home. From the front porch - through the glass door into the entry is the MOONGLOW SUITE. Typical of some 1920s homes of Fredericksburg, the living and dining rooms are separated with a dark wood colonnade featuring glass cabinets. The baby grand piano was a gift to Mrs. Stehling in 1926 from her husband and was her pleasure to play at holiday sing-alongs. Floral curtains have been in the home for 40 years. The dining room has a round oak table and built in buffet showcasing family tableware. The bedroom furniture, from 1920, is very ornate and includes the dressing table and bench. Area rugs complement the comforter, pillows and carefully chosen linens. The bathroom has a tub/shower.

SUNROOM SUITE
The SUNROOM SUITE is at the back of the home and has a private entrance from the outside. A connecting door opens to the kitchen and a hallway when the whole home is rented by a group of more than two guests. The SUNROOM SUITE is a wonderful big room where the Stehling girls slept. Eleven large windows have white lace curtains with old-fashioned shades. The large room has two wicker rockers and table, a cedar chest at the foot of the bed, an oak buffet with wet bar, and a little table and chairs with a child's tea set. The ten feet high ceiling and wood floor with blue rugs add warmth and color. The adjoining bath has a tub with shower.

In case you're wondering -- the Stehling boys' bedroom was the Bunkhouse currently used by the owners as their Fredericksburg getaway. It's above the garage in the back yard.
The landscaping of both homes reflects a casual Texas-German-Country garden with native flora combined with spectacular annuals. Rock walks and seating along with summer vegetable garden provide a retreat for guests. A large picnic table under an old pecan tree is available for guests to enjoy.
