This Texas Historical marker home was built in 1909 for Emil & Bertha Riley and purchased in 1912 by Charles Enderlin, Sr. and remained in the Enderlin Family for more than seventy years. Features of the home that are so typical of Fredericksburg are the side-gabled roof, shed roof, front porch, and two front doors. You will see more of these features in homes as you drive around town.
The Blue Cottage is located only four blocks from the central part of downtown Fredericksburg in a residential neighborhood. It has been beautifully renovated to be completely fresh inside and out. The front porch features a porch swing and leads you to the living room (queen-size sleeper sofa) with charming country decor, cable TV and VCR, too. The bedroom is spacious with its lovely comforter and comfy antique chairs. The kitchen is large and completely furnished for you to cook. The counter tops are wood - and the cabinets beautifully crafted as is all the woodwork in this home. An antique primitive wood table and chairs complete this kitchen to make it a cheerful place to sit and visit. Of special note is the antique telephone on the wall along with lovely appointments throughout the home. The bathroom is a roomy, bright, and has single whirlpool with shower.
Upstairs the second bedroom offers a western decorating theme. There is a king bed and double futon. The second full bath offers a shower. The bedroom upstairs has an attic feel with the ceiling slanting on both sides.
An added feature of this home is the fenced backyard with a picnic area you would expect to see in a park. It beckons with an invitation to sit under the umbrella in the manicured yard and take in the fresh air.
